Registration Mode
Use the Registration Mode parameter to specify whether you are operat-
ing in ARLAN, PSP or Non-ARLAN mode. The default setting is
ARLAN Mode.
Set toARLAN” when operating with Aironet Access Points
Set to “PSP” when operating with battery-powered devices
Set to “Non-ARLAN” when operating in Peer-to-Peer mode with
other Aironet Client Cards and no Aironet Access Points (see
Regis-
tration Modes
for a detailed explanation).
Setting the Specified Router
This parameter only applies to the ARLAN and PSP registration modes.
Use the Specified Router parameter to specify a Parent Access Point for
the Aironet PCMCIA Client Card to register to.
If you want the Aironet PCMCIA Client Card to register to a specific
Parent Access Point, you should enter the Network Address of that
Access Point. All other Access Points will be ignored even if their
radio link would be better.
Keep in mind, however, if the specified router is not heard from
within the Specified Router Timeout time, then the unit will register
with the Access Point at the root of the Radio Network Tree, or the
Access Point that is closest to the top of the Radio Network tree, and
that is within radio range (see
Setting Advanced Radio Parameters
for information on Specified Router Timeout).
If you do not want to specify a specific Parent Access Point, you
should leave the parameter at the default value of “Not Specified”.
With this value, the Client Card will automatically register to the
Access Point at the root of the Radio Network Tree or the Access
Point that is closest to the top of the Radio Network tree, and that is
within radio range.
